Ronda and its "Serranía" (mountain areas) offer the perfect landscape and geographical conditions for a wide variety of sports activities:

CLIMBING AND ABSEILING:

With a variety of natural rock faces of different levels of difficulty to match the ability of each participant, but not forgetting safety.

CAVING:

With a range of caves and grottoes, such as the Hundidero - Gato System, cavers can pass under a whole mountain, entering the cave mouth on one side, and emerging on the other side of the mountain several thrilling hours and one underground river course later. The utmost care should be taken.

WALKING:

There are may different walking routes, footpaths, lanes and bridlepaths through the local scenery all well worth following for their beauty and views. Some routes are guided and graded according to their difficulty.

As with walking, there is an abundance of routes to be followed and enjoyed on mountain bikes. The "Serranía" (mountain area) is a favourite area for mountain bikers.

CANOEING AND KAYAKING:

Great fun for everyone, even for children: in the nearby lakes as well as the fast-flowing mountain rivers.

This is available in Algodonales town, where courses for beginners are also on offer.

HORSE RIDING:

Around Ronda there are several stud faros which organize horse-riding tours through the most picturesque areas, and even to places that can only be reached on horseback.

GOLF:

In the nearby town of Marbella, as well as the seaside and beaches, there are plenty of golf courses for avid golfers to enjoy.

  • Visits to the "Pueblos Blancos" (White Villages) Route, the prehistoric remains and the Roman city of Acinipo.
  • Visit to the Mozárabe "Virgen de la Cabeza" cave church.
  • Visit to the Cueva de la Pileta (28,000-8,000 years BC.)

FAIR AND FIESTAS:

Among the variety of fiestas held in Ronda:

  • Carnival, for the fun of the streets, processions and competitions.
  • Easter Week, declared to be of special tourist interest in Andalusia.
  • The Royal Ronda Fair 20th to 22nd May.
  • La Romería de la Virgen de la Cabeza, Andalusian folklore festival held the second Sunday of June.
  • La Feria y Fiestas de Pedro Romero, the most important of all. Held on the first days of September, during the daytime in the city centre, and by night in the Recinto Ferial (the city´s Fair Complex). They include the traditional Goyesca bullfight, the Rejones (horseback) bullfight, and the beautiful horse and carriage competition, in which bullfighters wear period costumes and come to the packed main square on spectacular horse-drawn carriages. Celebrities from the worlds of culture, bullfighting, fine arts, cinema and politics are drawn to it, bringing life and colour to one of the most important Fiestas of Spain.
